One of the tasks of the Environment Agency is to maintain an inventory on ambient air pollution sources, which contains data for point and diffuse sources of emissions. We prepare national and international reports by gathering, processing and analysing data and forward these to different institutions in Estonia and abroad to fulfil the requirements set forth by the EU and UN. We provide input for the decision-makers about the status of ambient air, which is used to draft projections for the emissions of pollutants and different development and activity plans. We also prepare reviews and materials for informing the general public.
We maintain and manage information systems which are used by data providers for forwarding their reports. For the operators of point sources of ambient air pollution, we have created a web-based and password protected air emission data forwarding system OSIS. In addition to data provided by enterprises, we include calculations on emissions from households, agriculture, mobile and other diffuse pollution sources. We also maintain Fuel monitoring and Paint databases to keep track on the quality of environmental parameters of liquid fuels and paints, lacquers and vehicle refinishing materials sold and consumed on the Estonian market.
